Editorial Policy
Purpose and Principles Our mission is to provide clear, safe-use guidance on baby sound machines, grounded in transparent measurements and real-home validation. We publish what we measure, how we measured it, and why it matters for families.
Independence Our recommendations are editorially independent. Brands cannot buy coverage or higher rankings. When we receive samples, we disclose them. Advertising or affiliate relationships do not affect our testing or conclusions.
Product Selection We select products based on market relevance, safety features, reliability, availability, and reader demand. We aim to cover tabletop, portable, app-based, and multi-feature devices across price ranges.
Testing Standards • Measurements: Standardized SPL readings at set distances (including at-crib distance), frequency tendencies, and noise-floor/self-noise checks. • Loop analysis: Identify loop length and detect audible gaps or artifacts at multiple volume steps. • Scenario validation: Apartment traffic, shared rooms with sibling noise, daycare naps, and travel. • Usability: Volume step resolution, memory of last settings, light control, restart behavior after power loss, and physical controls in the dark. • Safety context: Placement guidance and conservative volume ranges informed by current expert recommendations. We do not provide medical advice; consult your clinician for personal concerns.
Scoring and Recommendations We assess performance within context. A “best for travel” pick may differ from a “best for shared rooms.” Scores reflect masking effectiveness at safe SPLs, consistency across spaces, ease of use, and reliability.
Updates and Corrections We revisit guides as products change, firmware updates roll out, or new evidence emerges. If we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and note the change. Send correction requests to [email protected].
Affiliate Disclosure Some links are affiliate links. If you purchase through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions do not influence our methodology or findings.
Samples, Gifts, and Loans We accept samples for evaluation with no guarantee of coverage or favorable outcomes. We may return, donate, or retain samples for long-term testing. We do not accept gifts that could create a conflict of interest.
Conflicts of Interest Contributors must disclose any personal or financial relationships with manufacturers or retailers related to covered products.
Sources and Citations When we reference external research or guidelines, we cite reputable sources and link when possible. We avoid claims that outpace available evidence.
AI and Automation We may use automated tools for drafting or data handling, but every published recommendation passes human review for accuracy, clarity, and tone.
Reader Feedback We welcome reader experiences that challenge or confirm our findings. Substantive feedback may trigger re-testing or updates. Contact: [email protected].
Accessibility and Clarity We prioritize plain language, clear safety notes, and scannable layouts so tired parents can get answers quickly.
